November mayoral elections in the US have shown an interesting trend.
While Miami’s pro-crypto mayor Francis Suarez was re-elected with almost 79%, the citizens of New York City elected another crypto enthusiast Eric Adams, who was quick to announce “NYC is going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing, innovative industries! Just wait!”. Both mayors asked to be paid in Bitcoin in the beginning.
USA is an interesting country in a sense that local authorities can really put their weight behind a project, even if the Federal mood differs. Thus, the state of Wyoming could grant Kraken a crypto bank license last year, but the idea of a US banks holding crypto for their clients still looks rather eccentric on the Federal level.
So what if state and local governments and lawmakers could indeed propel American crypto industry despite its geriatric and largely anti-crypto establishment ? That would be a great example of a true crypto spirit: coming from the people to break artificial barriers built by authorities ✨
