El Salvador airdropping $30 in BTC as an incentive to use crypto

Bitcoin popularisation in El Salvador starts to take shape.

President Bukele announced the launch of the official crypto wallet called Chivo in September. As incentive to download it and start using BTC in everyday life every adult citizen will receive $30 in bitcoin – an operation known as airdrop in the crypto world.

Meanwhile Zap, an American company behind Strike (app facilitating USA-El Salvador remittances using Lightning network), may face a regulatory hurdle. Operating as a money transmitter, Zap is well registered with the FinCEN (AML body), but on the state level it only holds a license from Washington. If it wishes to avoid being dragged through bureaucratic hell, Zap should better hurry to get the licenses in other states too.
