A strange new world is being born.
Yesterday BAYC creators Yuga Labs launched a mint for the Otherside land NFTs called the Otherdeeds. Described as “part galaxy and part archipelago” populated with mysterious natives called Kodas, the Otherside metaverse will be anything but boring, or at least this is what Yuga Labs is promising.
The metaverse, which is currently under development, is conceived as an RPG (role-playing game), where NFTs could become playable characters.
Unsurprisingly, the NFTs from the BAYC world, as well as Cryptopunks and Meebits (all belonging to Yuga Labs) will get Otherside-ready 3D models at game launch. Everyone else will be able to build their own characters via an SDK (software development kit).
Moreover, the Otherside will also allow developing characters, items and games, and then sell them on the game’s marketplace, aiming at creating a vibrant ecosystem.
The Otherside economy will be running on ApeCoin, a token launched on Ethereum earlier this year by the ApeDAO. However, it may not stay there long, as Ethereum scalability issues can be notoriously bothersome: the community already witnessed it during yesterday’s mint war, where thousands of transactions have failed because of Ethereum’s bottleneck, leading to an all-Twitter drama.
Yuga Labs reacted by calling to ApeDAO to consider moving the tokens to “their own chain”, while also promising to reimburse the gas wasted on the failed transactions.
A chivalrous move from the company that must understand the importance of customer relations in the NFT world ?
